MetroStars Suffer Loss to Comets
January 27, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Mississauga MetroStars News Release
Mo Babouli's 12th goal of the season gave the visiting Mississauga MetroStars an 8-7 lead after 6:29 of the fourth quarter but the Kansas City Comets scored three goals in the final 7:17 of the match to earn a 10-8 win over the MetroStars in a wildly entertaining MASL match at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, Sunday night.
? ?Darren Chambers' first goal of the season for Mississauga nullified an early first quarter power play goal from the Comets' Lucas Rodriguez and, after Leo Gibson had put Kansas City ahead again, Josh Paredes equalised once again for the MetroStars to stake the visitors to a 2-2 tie at the end of one quarter of play.
? ?Rodriguez and Damion Graham traded goals early in the second quarter before Anthony Grant put the Comets on top again only to have Jarred Phillips tally his first goal of the season to bring the MetroStars on even terms again. Then with just 1:05 left in the half, Marco Rodriguez netted his 9th of the season to give Mississauga a 5-4 lead at halftime.
? ?Ramone Palmer equalised again for the Comets just 4:09 into the third quarter but, just over a minute later, Massimo Mirabelli's first of the year gave Mississauga a 6-5 lead. Phillips' second of the game increased the visitors' lead to 7-5 before Bryan Perez' power play goal with just 12 seconds remaining in the quarter brought the Comets to within one.
? ?Perez then tallied the equaliser just 46 seconds into the fourth quarter but a superb solo effort from Babouli gave the MetroStars the lead once again. That's when it all unraveled for Mississauga as Kansas City netted three unanswered goals, including Gibson's second of the game and 15th on the season to give the hosts the 10-8 victory.
? ?With the loss, the MetroStars' record in the Eastern Division falls to 2-9 while the Comets improve to 6-5 and sit just three games back of the South Central Division leaders Milwaukee Wave.
? ?The MetroStars will enjoy a bye week before their next game at Utica against Eastern Division rivals City FC on Sunday, February 10 (kickoff 2:00pm ET). Missisauga's next home game is Friday, February 15 when they face the Baltimore Blast at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, with kickoff set for 7:35pm (ET).
