MetroStars' Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Participation Begins July 17: The MetroStars have learned their possible third round opponent for a Cup game to be played Wednesday, July 17. They will face the second round winner of the Cup match between the Hampton Roads Mariners (A League) and South Jersey (D3). These teams will play each other on June 26 (Rutgers University, Camden - Camden, N.J., 7:30 p.m. ET), with the winner hosting the MetroStars on July 17. 75' Minute Says A Lot: The MetroStars are 2-0-0 when leading in the 75' minute. They are 0-5-0 when trailing in the 75'. They are 1-0-1 when tied in the 75'. Good-Bye May!: Players found the month of May a tough one posting a league record of 0-3-1. In April, they were 2-1-1. The league game against Los Angeles is the first one for the current month of June. Metros in a Struggle: The MetroStars are 0-4-2 in their last six games overall of league play. They began the season 3-1-0. First "Day" Game of the Season: The team will play their first game of the year when they host the Galaxy Saturday afternoon. The last time the team played a day game in league action was on September 29, 2001, in a playoff game and eventual series tie-breaker loss against the Galaxy. MetroStars Love Exhibitions: The Metros are 2-0-1 in exhibition games played during the current regular season with wins over Hampton Roads Mariners (3-0) and Cape Cod Crusaders (3-0), and a tie against A.C. Milan (1-1). They have upcoming exhibitions games remaining against Boca Juniors of Argentina (June 19), Atlanta Silverbacks of the A League (August 9), and Chivas of Mexico (August 14). Tab Ramos Looks to End Playing Career with a Bang!: Midfielder/captain Tab Ramos, who announced his playing retirement at the end of the current season on June 14, has notched a point in his last four games played overall. He scored a goal against A.C. Milan (May 16), assisted against DC United (May 18) and Kansas City (May 25), and scored again in the exhibition win over Hampton Roads (May 31). Tab did not travel (left groin pull) in the recent exhibition win over Cape Cod in Albany, New York. Martin Klinger Off The Injured Reserve List: Second-year Metro and Nike Pro 40 forward Martin Klinger was taken off the Injured Reserve List this past Tuesday, June 11, after missing the first 10 league games and three exhibitions this season with lumbar spondylolysis (lower back pain). Klinger, 21, has resumed training full-time with the team at Kean University-East Campus in Union, NJ. The Kearny, New Jersey native played in nine league games (no points) during his rookie 2001 season with the MetroStars. Upcoming International Exhibitions this Month at Giants Stadium: The team will host legendary Argentinean club team Boca Juniors in a stand-alone international friendly game at Giants Stadium next Wednesday, June 19 at 7:45 p.m. ET. In addition, the team has also announced that top Colombian club teams Atletico Nacional and Independiente Medellin will face each other in an international club friendly at Giants Stadium on Wednesday, June 26, kicking off immediately following the MetroStars game against all-time Colombian great Carlos Valderrama and the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. ET.
