MetroStars Lose to Milwaukee Wave
January 26, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Mississauga MetroStars News Release
Inspired by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Adrian Becic, the Mississauga MetroStars led going into the fourth quarter but conceded three goals in the final frame to drop a 7-5 decision to the hometown Milwaukee Wave at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Saturday night.
? ?Already missing co-captains Dwayne De Rosario and Adrian Cann, who did not make the trip to the US Midwest, the MetroStars lost Marco Rodriguez early in the game with a dislocated shoulder. But Mississauga overcame that adversity by scoring first with Matthew Rios tapping in a pass from Damion Graham just over 4:00 into the game. Two quick goals from Alex Bradley and Isaac Pereyra put the Wave in front but Mo Babouli's first of two in the game with just 28 seconds left in the quarter would bring the MetroStars even again.
? ?Canadian Ian Bennett and Bradley, with his second of three on the night, would restore the Wave lead and Milwaukee led 4-2 at halftime.
? ?Graham and Rios combined again for Mississauga early in the third quarter to cut the Wave deficit to 4-3 and, after the MetroStars killed off a penalty, they equalised again on Babouli's second goal from another Graham assist. Then, with less than a minute to play in the quarter, Mississauga jumped in front again as Graham collected a rebound off the end boards and hit a shot to the roof of the net for his eighth goal of the year.
? ?Drew Ruggles then scored on his own rebound to bring the Wave level again just over 6:00 into the fourth quarter. Less than 3:00 later, Becic made a sensational diving save clearing the ball off the line but, shortly afterwards, the Mississauga goalkeeper had to leave the field as he needed the trainer's attention for the second time in the game to treat an injury.
? ?That forced the MetroStars to replace him with reserve keeper Sebastian Zeballos and, within a minute of the change, the Wave jumped in front again on Bradley's third goal of the game. In the final minute, with the MetroStars deploying a sixth attacker, Bennett netted his second goal of the game and team-leading 16th of the season into an empty net to seal the final result.
? ?The MetroStars fall to 2-8 and slip to fourth place behind the Harrisburg Heat in the Eastern Division while the Wave improve to 9-2 to lead the South Central Division by 3 games over the St Louis Ambush.
? ?The MetroStars will travel to Kansas City where, tomorrow afternoon at 5:05pm ET, they have a date with the Comets at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Mississauga's next home game is Friday, February 15th when they host the Baltimore Blast at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre with kickoff set for 7:35pm (ET).
