SECAUCUS, NJ (Friday, April 11, 2003) - The MetroStars today announced the acquisition of forward John Wolyniec (pronounced wall-EE-neck) in a supplemental draft conducted last night through MLS Headquarters in New York. Wolyniec played the 2002 season with the Milwaukee Rampage of the A-League and led the team to the 2002 A-League championship with a 2-1 overtime win over the Richmond Kickers. The Staten Island native scored a goal and registered the game-winning assist earning MVP honors in the match.

"It's great to be able to play in New York," said Wolyniec. "I grew up here and being able to play in front of a true home crowd is exciting. Hopefully, we can put together a good season and it is good to be able to be a part of the MetroStars again. Bob (Bradley) is the guy that gave me the first real shot in MLS and I am glad to be playing for him again."

The Fordham University product begins his second stint with the MetroStars after playing four games and scoring one goal in 1999 after being drafted in the first round (seventh overall) in the 1999 College Draft. He has totaled four goals and one assist for nine points in 26 games (six starts) in his MLS career.

"We are very happy to have John with the MetroStars," said MetroStars coach Bob Bradley. "He is a good guy to have on the team and I am very familiar with him from our time in Chicago. He brings a physical aspect to the game that I thought needed to be addressed."

Wolyniec, 26, remains the all-time leading scorer in Fordham University history with 75 goals and 36 assists for 186 points. The 6'1" forward attended the Bronx, New York institution from 1995 - 1998.

"We are pleased that we are able to draft John and add a quality local talent onto the team," said MetroStars President/General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. "It is great to have another local guy on the team and it speaks volumes about the skill level in this area."

Wolyniec will wear jersey number 15 for the MetroStars.
