SECAUCUS, NJ (Monday, January 17, 2005) The MetroStars announced today that they traded Cornell Glen to FC Dallas in exchange for the 12th overall pick in last Fridays 2005 MLS SuperDraft. The Red and Black then used the 12th overall selection to acquire Tim Ward.
Ward, 17, of Waukesha, WI is described as a tough defender with a powerful shot that makes him particularly dangerous on set pieces. He recently completed his freshman season at Saint Louis University where he was named to the Conference-USA All-Freshman Team. He finished his first campaign tied for second on the team in assists, with four. Prior to matriculating to SLU, Ward completed his high school education at the Edison Academic Center in residency with the U.S. National Team program in Bradenton, Florida.
Glen departs the MetroStars after one year with the club. Glen was acquired as a transitional international via an allocation on March 30, 2004. He played in 18 games for the Red and Black tallying 14 points on six goals and two assists. Glen missed six games for the Metros due to World Cup Qualifiers for the Trinidad and Tobago National Team. To finish off a successful season, Cornell was awarded the MetroStars 2004 Play of the Year for his goal in the May 8 game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
