Midland RockHounds News Release
Adrian Cardenas homered in the top of the first inning Sunday at Springfield, Missouri, but you won't find the long bal on the stat sheet. A severe storm ripped through Springfield and Hammons Field in the third ining, washing away not only AC's home run, but a 4-1 Springfield lead. Play was halted in the middle of the third, and the game was officially declared a rainout at 8:45 p.m.
There was no rain when play was initially stopped, but lightning was flashing very close to the field. About 10 minutes after he players were called off the diamond, the weather hit ... and hit hard. The Weather Cahannel web site reported winds gusting to 47 mph, acccompanied by thunder, lightning and sheets of rain.
Springfield tied the game in the last of the first and scored three more in the second inning against RockHounds starter Carlos Hernandez . The lefty hit Daryl Jones with the first pitch of the home half of the first inning. Ironicallly, that would be the only "non strikes" he threw in the inning, tossing 19 consecutive strikes into the last of the second. But the Cardinals got a two-out, RBI single from Andrew Brown in the first, then rapped out four hits, highlighted by Jones' 2-run triple, in the second for a 4-1 lead. All stats from the game are, with the contest itself, washed away.
The teams will now play a double-header tomorrow (Monday) beginning at 6:10 p.m.
RADIO: Our apologies for no broadcast of (what there was) of Sunday's game. A completely un-related issue kept us off air. Again, a touch of irony, the problem was corrected just as the storm ... and the lightning ... hit. LIghting and electronic equipment do NOT get along, so we simply made the anouncements from the My Country studios. if Ma nature allows, we'll be back with ya Monday!
Monday's Probable Starters (Game 1) ... Game 2 TBA) R ockHounds Ryan Edell (LH, 3-2, 2.89) Springfield Ryan Kulik (LH, 6-2, .300)
First Pitch at 6:10 p.m. .... Hammons Field, Springfield, Missouri Broadcast at 5:55 p.m. on My Country 96.1-FM
