July 14, 2015 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Madison, WI- Madison West High School star and Capitols' draftee Mick Messner received another distinguished achievement in his young career on Tuesday, as he was chosen to participate for the U.S. Under-17 Select Team in the Five Nations Tournament next month.
The 20-man roster, consisting of 16 USHL Phase One draft picks from this past May, will travel to Arosa, Switzerland and compete from Aug. 10-16. Team USA took second place in the 2014 tournament.
Messner was the Capitols' first round selection in Phase One this season after a stellar two-season performance for the Madison West Regents. In 42 total games, the talented forward scored 33 goals and added 30 assists.
This past January, the 16-year-old Messner announced his intention to remain in his hometown, verbally committing to play his NCAA hockey at the University of Wisconsin.
Should Messner skate with the Capitols this fall, he would become the fourth UW commit to lace up for Madison, joining forwards Will Johnson and Jarod Zirbel, as well as defenseman Tony Stillwell.
