Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders running back Jerome Messam has been honoured as one of the Canadian Football League's three players of the week as a result of his performance on Friday in a 36-22 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The 31-year-old Brampton, Ont., native ran for 137 yards - a league best so far in the young season - on 16 carries for an average of 8.6 yards per rush and included a 53-yard dash in the third quarter. The total was just two yards shy of Messam's personal career best of 139, which he set in 2011.
Messam leads the CFL in rushing through two weeks of play with 153 yards.
The CFL's other two players of the week are both members of Calgary's next opponent as Ottawa RedBlacks Trevor Harris and receiver Chris Williams were also recognized for their play last week.
