Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a pair of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to this afternoon's game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 7:05 p.m.

Outfielder Victor Victor Mesa has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. Mesa played 89 games for the Hammerheads, hitting .252 with no home runs and 26 RBI. Mesa is regarded by MLB Pipeline as the Marlins No. 13 prospect.

Mesa was signed by the Marlins as an international free agent on October 22, 2018 after he and his brother Victor Jr., defected from Cuba in May 2018. Mesa was regarded as the top-rated international prospect in the 2018-19 class according to MLB Pipeline, Baseball America, and FanGraphs. Mesa, 23, is a native of Santa Clara, Cuba.

In a corresponding move, infielder Lazaro Alonso has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. Alonso played in 13 games for the Jumbo Shrimp, hitting .147 with a home run and two RBI.

The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, plus Pablo Lopez on his major league rehab assignment, and a revised roster is attached.

Jacksonville hosts Pensacola in Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. contest. RHP Kolton Mahoney (4-0, 2.74 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Blue Wahoos RHP Edwar Colina (1-0, 1.64 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on MiLB.tv, Sunny 102.3 FM, TuneIn and jaxshrimp.com.

The Jumbo Shrimp, Dreams Come True and Community First Credit Union are partnering for a historic Dreams Come True (literal) 2 For Tuesday presented by Community First Credit Union. The Jumbo Shrimp are welcoming a Jacksonville Dreamer and a parent to be the only two people in the ballpark. Fans can join the Jumbo Shrimp just beyond the Budweiser Tiki Terrace for a party celebrating a Southern League attendance record of... two people. At the conclusion of the fifth inning, all fans will be let into the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville to help sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" in the seventh inning to celebrate the Dreamer in style. In addition, as fate would have it, on the Dreams Come True (literal) 2 For Tuesday presented by Community First Credit Union, the first two fans through the gates will receive an authentic Jumbo Shrimp jersey.
