Merrill wins both NLL offensive and rookie weekly awards

Brodie Merrill collects two weekly awards, Offensive and Rookie Player of the Week, for his performance in the team's 15-12 victory over Philadelphia. Merrill led both teams in points and loose balls in the contest. The rookie defenseman scored two goals and added five assists, for a total of seven points in the win and also collected 18 loose balls. The performance moves him into third place in the NLL's loose ball category for the season. This is Merrill's first NLL Offensive award and his third Rookie of the Week accolade.

Merrill will also be featured on ESPN 2's Cold Pizza this Friday. The show airs locally from 7-9a and repeats from 9a-11a. This interview leads into the All-Star weekend, where Merrill is the only rookie on the starting line-up for either team. Goalie Dallas Eliuk and defenseman Ryan Sharp will also be representing the LumberJax on the West Division team.

Week Seven Award Winners

OFFENSIVE AND ROOKIE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Brodie Merrill (Portland) - (2G, 5A, 7Pts, 18LB) scored two goals and added five assists for a total of seven points. Merrill also collected eighteen loose balls in Portland's 15-12 win over Philadelphia.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Pat Campbell (Edmonton) - (54 Saves, 11GA, 3A, 3LB) had 54 saves on 65 shots on goal allowing eleven in 12-11 win over Calgary, the expansion team's first win. Campbell also earned three points, with three assists, and collected three loose balls.

OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

John Tavares (Buffalo) - (1G, 5A, 6Pts, 7LB) scored one goal and added five assists for a total of six points, as he tied the NLL Career Points record. Tavares also collected seven loose balls.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's eleven member clubs.

The Portland LumberJax (www.PortlandJax.com) were founded on May 11, 2005 as an expansion franchise in the National Lacrosse League, which features the best lacrosse players in the world.
