
Mercury Take First Game against Fever this Season

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever were unable to overcome a halftime deficit on the way to a 93-80 loss to the Phoenix Mercury in the first of three matchups between the two teams in a two-week stretch. Phoenix improves to 6-9 this season, while Indiana is 4-13.
Kelsey Mitchell led the way for the Fever, scoring 19 points in the second half on the way to a 26-point performance. In her franchise record-breaking 139th consecutive game played, Mitchell recorded her 10th game of the season with at least 20 points.
Victoria Vivians had her 11th game with at least 10 points, ending with 14 points and five assists for Indiana. Queen Egbo tied a career-high with 12 points to go along with six rebounds and two blocked shots, while NaLyssa Smith pulled down 14 rebounds for Indiana.
Phoenix controlled the lead for the majority of the game and led by as many as 23 in the first half, thanks to a 33-point quarter in the second - the most by a Fever opponent in the second quarter this season. Mercury center Tina Charles led all scorers after two quarters of play with 16 points and would end with a season-high 29 points.
Out of the halftime break, Kelsey Mitchell added 15 points in the third quarter alone to keep Phoenix within striking distance, but Indiana only cut the lead down to as much as 11. Both teams struggled from the field in the fourth quarter, but the Mercury kept the lead the rest of the way to win its fourth game in the last five outings.
Mercury guards Diana Taurasi, Diamond DeShields, and Skylar Diggins-Smith all ended the night scoring in double-figures.
