Mercury Sign Karlie Samuelson to Hardship Contract

PHOENIX - The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today announced the team has signed guard Karlie Samuelson to a hardship contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

Samuelson, a 6-0 guard, has spent time with the LA Sparks, Dallas Wings and Seattle Storm. Samuelson played in the three final games of the 2021 regular season with the Storm, averaging 3.0 points. Prior to signing with the Storm during the 2021 season, Samuelson signed a hardship contract with the LA Sparks, appearing in 11 games while making three starts and averaging 3.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Samuelson made her professional debut with the LA Sparks in 2018 after signing a training camp contract and having earned a spot on the opening day roster. She appeared in four games with the Sparks averaging 3.5 points per game and shooting 40 percent from three-point range.

Samuelson will be available tonight when the Mercury take on the LA Sparks at Crypto.com Arena at 7:30pm PT. An updated roster is attached.

Led by the 2021 Olympic gold-medal winning trio of Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Tina Charles, and coming off the club's fifth WNBA Finals appearance in franchise history, the three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury return to Phoenix this summer as the trio attempts to lead the Mercury to a WNBA-record tying fourth championship in 2022.
