Phoenix Mercury News Release

PHOENIX - The three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury tonight selected Maya Dodson from Notre Dame with the 26th-overall pick (third round) and Macee Williams from IUPUI with the 32nd-overall pick (third round) in the 2022 WNBA Draft.

Head Coach Vanessa Nygaard: "We are delighted to have drafted Maya. Knowing where we were picking and what our needs are, she was at the top of our list. She is smart, tough and a great defensive player. She has a lot of potential to help us be successful. Macee is a walking double-double. She's a stretch-four who brings versatility and toughness. She is ready to compete and we are happy to have her."

A 6-3 forward from Alpharetta, Georgia, Dodson played her final year of collegiate basketball for the Fighting Irish after spending three years at Stanford (2017-20), opting out her senior season. During her three years with the Cardinals, Dodson worked herself into the program's all-time top-10 in career blocks (78) and career field goal percentage (.497). In her one year at Notre Dame, she started in all 33 games, averaging 28.7 minutes. Her 2.8 blocks per game ranked eighth in the nation. Throughout her collegiate career, Williams earned 2022 Second Team All-ACC honors, was named to the 2022 ACC All-Defensive Team, ACC Player of the Week, named to the 2020 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and received a 2019 Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention.

Williams, a 6-2 forward from Veedersburg, Indiana spent the entirety of her collegiate basketball career at IUPUI (2017-21). Williams, IUPUI's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, became the first Jaguar to be drafted in the WNBA. Williams is a four-time Horizon League Player of the Year and is only the fourth Division I women's basketball student athlete to be named conference Player of the Year four times. She recorded ten double-doubles during the 2021-22 regular season and averaged a double-double with 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game in 27 games played.

With the additions of Dodson and Williams, the Mercury's current roster stands at 15 players. A complete training camp roster will be available at a later date.

Led by the 2021 Olympic gold-medal winning trio of Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins-Smith and Tina Charles, and coming off the club's fifth WNBA Finals appearance in franchise history, the three-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury return to Footprint Center this summer, tipping off the season with Fry's Food Stores Opening Night on Friday, May 6, against the Las Vegas Aces.
