Mercury Completes Trade with Seattle

PHOENIX - The two-time WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury today acquired the rights to Polish center Ewelina Kobryn from the Seattle Storm in exchange for forward Charde Houston, the team has announced.

The 6-4, 201-pound center, who has played internationally since 2002, currently plays in Russia for UMMC Ekaterinburg, the team for which Mercury Head Coach Sandy Brondello coaches and which features Mercury guard Diana Taurasi. Kobryn has averaged 6.9 points and 4.0 rebounds in EuroLeague play this season, and has shot 61.5 percent from the floor.

Kobryn has played 51 career games in the WNBA, all with Seattle in 2011 (18 games) and 2012 (33 games). The 31-year-old averaged 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds, both career highs, in 33 games (six starts) for the Storm in 2012.

Houston was acquired by the Mercury on Feb. 24, 2012. Last season, the 6-0, 180-pound forward averaged 5.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists while appearing in all 34 games (six starts).
