PHOENIX- The Phoenix Mercury's annual "Rock the Pink" festivities, brought to you by IASIS Healthcare, raised more than $13,106 for the American Cancer Society during tonight's Mercury-San Antonio Stars game at Talking Stick Resort Arena.
"The American Cancer Society knows that prevention and early detection are the keys to finding cancer at its most treatable stages. The Phoenix Mercury Rock the Pink Night gives us the opportunity to get that message out and to educate women and men about breast health awareness," said Coleen McKinstry, community manager for American Cancer Society. "The dollars raised tonight fund groundbreaking cancer research and help support and deliver our lifesaving mission. This night is also about honoring and celebrating cancer survivors, and we are so grateful to the Mercury for the very special ways in which they do this. We love this partnership and thank the Phoenix Mercury for their commitment to helping save more lives from breast cancer."
The money was raised through the team's pre-game luminaria dedication drive as well as a postgame live auction featuring players' game-worn jerseys from tonight's Rock the Pink game.
In addition to the monetary donations, the Mercury hosted a Pink Out, providing 9,500 fans with pink Mercury shirts courtesy of IASIS Healthcare, and turned Talking Stick Resort Arena pink for more than 24 hours in an effort to create breast health awareness in the Valley. A picture of the luminaria dedication and Talking Stick Resort Arena turned pink is attached and below.
The core that won it all in 2014 is back! Diana Taurasi and Penny Taylor return to join 2015 All-Star trio Brittney Griner, Candice Dupree and DeWanna Bonner as the Phoenix Mercury pursue a league-record tying fourth WNBA title in 2016. Tickets for the Mercury's game on Tuesday, July 19 and the other regular-season Mercury home games can be purchased by calling 602.252.WNBA or by visiting PhoenixMercury.com.
