Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes scored three times on a trio of passed balls, but were unable to capitalize on the defensive miscues, falling 11-4 to the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, in Spring Training action today at Jupiter, Florida. The defeat drops Albuquerque's Spring record to 2-4.

Catcher Alberto Conception, who was making his debut in Triple-A camp after spending the majority of the spring with Double-A Carolina, had the only RBI of the game for Albuquerque with a solo home run in the fifth.

Meanwhile, Andrew Beattie continued his torrid spring by belting a double, one of six two-baggers on the day for the ‘Topes, which all came with the bases empty. Infielder Dallas McPherson also contributed a double, as did Tagg Bozied, who last year was a member of the opposing Redbirds.

With just 11 days remaining in Spring Training, the Isotopes roster continues to come into clearer focus with each day. Today, Albuquerque welcomed starting right-hander Gaby Hernandez, who was last year's Marlins Minor League Pitcher of the Year and is considered by Baseball America to be the fifth-best prospect in the Florida system.

Tomorrow, the Isotopes will look to exact some revenge on the Redbirds as they will again entertain Memphis at the Roger Dean Complex in Jupiter, Florida.

The 2008 Isotopes season begins on April 3, with the home opener slated for April 11, when the ‘Topes host the Oklahoma RedHawks, Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
