Springfield Cardinals News Release
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds dropped a heart-breaking 5-4 11-inning decision to the Durham Bulls (TB) on Tuesday night, in the Triple-A Championship Game.
Held in Oklahoma City, the Championship Game featured the winner of the Pacific Coast League (Memphis) and the winner of the International League (Durham), in a one-game "winner-take-all" Triple-A Championship.
Fresh off their three-game sweep over Sacramento to claim the PCL Championship, the Redbirds battled back from an early 4-0 deficit. Allen Craig had two hits, including a two-run homer, while David Freese's sac fly tied the game in the seventh.
Durham scored the winning run in the 11th, as Memphis reliever Oneli Perez uncorked a wild pitch.
After the game, it was announced that three former Springfield Cardinals, Josh Kinney David Freese and Matt Pagnozzi, will be added to the St. Louis roster. Kinney was part of the 2006 World Series team and began the year on the St. Louis roster. Freese, who appeared in a rehab assignment for Springfield about a month ago, also opened the year on the big club's roster. For Pagnozzi, his first appearance will mark his major league debut, making him the 24th Springfield Cardinal to go on and make his major league debut for St. Louis.
MIDLAND CAPTURES TEXAS LEAGUE CROWN
The Midland RockHounds won the final three games of their best-of-five series over Northwest Arkansas, securing their second Texas League Crown in the last five years. They wrapped up the Championship Series on Saturday in Northwest Arkansas, with a 4-2 win in 12 innings.
After dropping game one at home, Midland won the next three, winning two straight at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale to take the series three games to one.
