Memphis 901 FC News Release
Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis 901 FC looks to add another win at home against Detroit City FC after defeating FC Tulsa 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Memphis moved back into the number one spot in the eastern conference after earning their 10th win of the season, tied for 2nd in the league in conversion rate at 20% and tied 4th in goals scored at 30.
901 FC and Detroit City recorded a draw in their previous match this season in Detroit. Both teams are looking to tally the first win of the series on Saturday.
Detroit City currently sits at fourth in the eastern conference standings, six points behind Memphis after earning six points over their last five matches.
901 FC picked up their sixth home win of the season after outshooting Tulsa 15-10 with nine shots on target to Tulsa's one.
Memphis saw their first goal in the 14th minute. Three-time USL Championship Team of the Week member Aaron Molloy sent a corner kick into the mixer that connected with Graham Smith in the center of the box, resulting in Smith's first goal of the season and Molloy's third assist.
901 FC has gone 9-0-1 when scoring first and has scored 18 of their 30 goals in the first half.
Memphis put the final nail in the coffin as Leston Paul, who returned from national team duties, sent a ball to the right corner of the box to Derek Dodson. Dodson took the tight angle shot and sent the ball across the goal into the bottom left corner in the 84th minute. Dodson tallied his second goal of the season with Paul recording his third assist.
Memphis 901 FC moved to 10-3-2 on the season with the win.
Quotables
On preparing for the short turnaround:
"Candidly I think we're up against it Saturday. They're off this week. It's going to be just as hot on Saturday. It's going to be a battle. I'm excited for the match because they're a top opponent. They're one of the more physical teams, but not in a dirty way. They know how to play. They know what they want to do." - Head Coach Ben Pirmann
On Detroit City FC:
"They're very comfortable in all four or five phases of the match. They're good on possession. They can press high, they like being direct in the channels. They have a front three that interchanges pretty well. The wing backs do a great job of getting services over. We've really got to be buttoned up on restarts. Crosses from live balls and crosses from dead balls, they're the best team in the league." - Head Coach Ben Pirmann
