Medina Quiets Miracle in 5-1 Win

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Adonis Medina turned in his best outing of the season on Thursday night, leading the Clearwater Threshers to a 5-1 win over the Fort Myers Miracle in the series finale at Spectrum Field.

JP Crawford played seven innings at shortstop in the second game of a rehab assignment, finishing 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. The 23-year-old was placed on the Phillies disabled list on April 29 with a right forearm strain.

Medina (5-2) matched a season-high with seven innings in the start, limiting the Miracle (20-29) to just an unearned run on three hits and a walk while striking out six.

After permitting a one-out single to Mark Contreras in the first, Medina retired the next 14 to bat against him before a walk to Luis Arraez opened the sixth.

The lone run against him came in the seventh, and was not earned. Mitchell Kranson opened the inning with a single to right, and would advance to second on a passed ball. With two outs, Lewin Diaz's knock to right scored Kranson with the Miracle's only run.

Clearwater (20-29) gained its first lead of the series by putting up a four-spot in the bottom of the third.

Luke Williams was hit by a pitch on an 0-2 count, and Crawford followed by drawing a walk. Adam Haseley then walked on four pitches to load the bases against Clark Beeker (1-4).

Austin Listi came through, ripping a single to left to score Williams and Crawford. Darick Hall worked a walk to re-load the bases, and Mickey Moniak singled through the right side to bring home Haseley and make it 3-0.

With one out, Edgar Cabral lofted one to deep left for a sacrifice fly, pushing the advantage to 4-0.

Up 4-1 in the seventh, the Threshers tacked on one more when with two outs, Moniak singled through the right side and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Arquimedes Gamboa dropped a single into left to score Moniak, making it 5-1.

Moniak has strung together four straight multihit performances, finishing 7-for-13 with three doubles in the three-game set.

Felix Paulino tossed the final two innings in relief, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four.

The Threshers welcome in the Florida Fire Frogs for five games over the next three days, starting with the resumption of a suspended game from May 19th. That contest will pick up will both teams scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, and will get underway at 5 p.m., with a full nine-inning contest to follow.
