LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced on Tuesday that the team has waived overage defenseman Matthew Stanley.

Stanley, 20, was acquired by the Hurricanes from the Swift Current Broncos on January 8, 2018. The Balmoral, Manitoba product appeared in 35 regular season games for the Hurricanes in 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 collecting seven points (2g-5a) along with 74 penalty minutes. Stanley scored his first WHL goal with the Hurricanes on February 16th against the Saskatoon Blades in part of a two-goal game.

Stanley also appeared in 16 post-season games last year for the 'Canes scoring two goals and two assists along with 18 penalty minutes helping the team to their second straight appearance in the Eastern Conference Championship Series.

"Stanley was a true warrior for the Hurricanes and was a great teammate," said Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt. "We wish Matthew the best of luck moving forward."
