Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - The Generals built an early lead and held on for the win at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa on Friday. They beat the division rival, Belleville Bulls, 3-2, before a full-house crowd of 6,008 on the 15th annual Teddy Bear Toss night. Generals' goaltender, Daniel Altshuller, was outstanding, earning the first star selection with 33 saves en route to victory. Altshuller was a game changer right away, making 16 stops in the opening frame. His best work was a splendid pad save on a partial break, setting the stage for Oshawa to take the lead. Chris Carlisle rewarded his goaltender by scoring his 3rd goal of the season at 16:12. His wrist shot from the point through traffic beat Bulls' goaltender Charlie Graham, sending the Teddy Bears flying onto the ice. When the bears were cleared, it was 1-0 Generals. Scott Laughton came close to doubling Oshawa's lead in the second period, but Graham met the challenge, shutting the Flyers' prospect down on a breakaway. Oshawa's forecheck kept coming, and with seconds to go in the frame, Bradley Latour buried a loose rebound, putting the Generals in the driver's seat, 2-0. Belleville closed the gap early in the third, with Scott Simmonds spoiling Altshuller's shutout bid on a rebound at 3:51. Oshawa's power play answered the bell, restoring the 2 goal cushion at 9:14. Laughton deflected a point shot for his 9th goal of the season, making it 3-1 Oshawa. The Bulls made Oshawa sweat late in the game, as Brendan Gaunce buried his 10th on a cross-crease-pass at 17:56. Altshuller was brilliant, shutting down Belleville's final push in the dying seconds, securing a 3-2 Generals' win. Belleville outshot Oshawa 35-33. The Generals swept the three star selections, with Altshuller, Carlisle and Latour taking home the honours. Oshawa's next home game is this Sunday December 16th vs. the division-rival Ottawa 67's. Puck drops at 6:05 PM at the General Motors Centre. Come cheer on the Gens as they make a push for first place in the East Division.
