Barrie, Ontario - The Barrie Colts overcame a 3-1 Generals lead in the third period, scoring twice in the last 5 minutes of the game to send the game to overtime in front of 2,658 in attendance at the Molson Centre. Zach Hall was the hero for the Colts, scoring his second goal of the game 1:18 into overtime to win Game 1 for Barrie. Boone Jenner collected 2 assists on the night, pushing his postseason point total to 7. Daniel Altshuller made 32 saves in the 4-3 loss.

The score was opened by the Generals at 8:04 in the first, as Michael Dal Colle roofed a backhanded rebound over Mathias Niederberger for his second of the playoffs, and the 1-0 Generals lead. The Colts responded at 11:05, as their top two scorers combined for the tying goal. Zach Hall skated down the right wing side, drawing the defenders attention before dishing the puck to Mark Scheifele who hammered the puck past Daniel Altshuller, tying the game 1-1.

Tyson Fawcett was given the best chance to break the deadlock in the period, splitting the defenders for a breakaway on Altshuller. The Oshawa netminder outwaited Fawcett, and sprawled to make the save with his glove. The shot were 15-11 for the Generals after 20 minutes of play.

Starting the second on a 5-on-3 penalty kill, the Generals kept the Colts powerplay at bay, and counter-attacked for a shorthanded goal to give them a 2-1 lead. Bradley Latour skated untouched into the slot before wristing the shot past Niederberger for his 4th of the post-season.

At 5:18, the Generals extended their lead to two as Scott Sabourin scored his 3rd of the playoffs for the 3-1 Generals lead. On a delayed penalty, Boone Jenner controlled the puck on the point before firing a shot into a mass of bodies in front of the Colts net. Scott Sabourin had parked himself in front of net, where the puck deflected off the Oshawa over-ager and into the net.

The Colts rallied in the third, scoring twice in the last five minutes to force the game into overtime. Steven Beyers broke in on a partial break before roofing the puck over Altshuller, cutting the lead to one. Shortly after, the Colts tied the game at 3-3 as Zach Hall dove to poke the rebound into the net, sending the game to overtime.

The overtime period was short-lived as a big stop by Mathias Niederberger sent the Colts flying the other way. Zach Hall used his winger as a decoy before toe-dragging around the Oshawa defender and fired it off the post and into the net for the game-winner.

Oshawa outshot Barrie 43-36.

Play resumes on Friday, as Game 2 is set to start at 7:30 at the Molson Centre in Barrie. The series then shifts to Oshawa on Sunday April 7th for Game 3, with action set to start at 6:05pm at the General Motors Centre. Fans are encouraged to wear red throughout the playoffs to cheer on the Generals.
