Mechanics triumph over Fury, 4-2

Fraser, MI – In the final home game of their inaugural season, the Motor City Mechanics outplayed the Muskegon Fury and earned a 4-2 win, their first victory over the top ranked Fury this season. Assistant Captain Joe Burton scored the 600th goal of his professional career and the Mechanics extended their winning streak to 9-0-0.

Jeff Doyle gave the Mechanics a 1-0 lead when he poked a rebound past Fury netminder Sylvain Daigle 6:21 into the first period. Four minutes later, Sean Avery found the back of the net. At the eight minute mark of the second period, Burton lifted the puck high, glove side to score career goal number 600, for a 3-0 Motor City lead. Matt Hunter and Blair Manning assisted on the goal.

Early in the third period, Jason Lawmaster put the Fury on the board, preventing the Mechanics shutout. Chris Gignac scored at 18:21 to boost Motor City's lead to 4-1. Twenty seconds later, Muskegon's B.J. Gaustad scored for the 4-2 final. In net, Daigle made 39 saves for the Fury, while Rod Branch stopped 21 shots in net for the Mechanics. Motor City held Muskegon 0/3 on the powerplay, while the Mechanics went 0/1.

The Mechanics hit the road for the final three games of the season. On Friday and Saturday, the Mechanics play the Richmond RiverDogs in Roanoke, Virginia. The final game of the season will be played against the Elmira Jackals on Sunday.
