Mechanics mourn passing of hockey's greatest mom

FRASER, MI-December 20, 2005- The Motor City Mechanics of the United Hockey League (UHL) would like to send it's condolences to the Gretzky family with the passing of Motor City Mechanic Brent Gretzky's mother, Phyllis Gretzky.

Phyllis, who had battled lung cancer since being diagnosed in the autumn of 2004, died at Brantford Hospital Monday night after being admitted into the hospital on Thursday with pneumonia. Brent had taken a leave of absence from the team to be with his family during the difficult time.

Team President John Tull made this statement, "On behalf of the Motor City Mechanics team, staff and fans our thoughts and prayers are with the Gretzky family at this time."

Phyllis is survived by her husband Walter, her five children and twelve grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Dennis Toll Funeral Home in Brantford on Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday morning at 10:30am at Grace Anglican Church in Brantford.
