Beauregard and Vipers Come From Behind to Defeat Richmond 3-1

December 20, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Roanoke Valley Vipers News Release

ROANOKE, VA - The Richmond RiverDogs took an early lead in the first makeup game of two on Tuesday at the Roanoke Civic Center with a first period goal from Warren Cooper at the 14:29 mark. Roanoke Valley battled back, however, scoring three third-period goals to secure the win as they gained sole possession of third place in the UHL Eastern Division.

Just 30 seconds into the third period, David Beauregard deflected a shot off the stick of Jan Jas to tie the game and get the Vipers on the board. Later in the period, Jas would make a shot of his own with the help of Beauregard and L.P. Martin, who also received an assist on Beauregard's goal. The Vipers captain would score once more before the final buzzer sounded, netting a power play goal off passes from Martin and Jas at 17:08, sealing the win for the Vipers.

The Vipers offense worked Richmond goaltender Doug Groenestege all game long, but especially put the pressure on in the third period, making 22 shots, almost matching Richmond's total shots (25) in the game. The two teams went into the game tied for third place in the Eastern Division, and with the win the Vipers, 10-12-4, took sole possession of third place, knocking the RiverDogs back to fourth place.

The Vipers hit the ice at the Roanoke Civic Center once again tomorrow night at 7:05p.m. as they host the Flint Generals for the first time.
