Motor City Mechanics News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN-Motor City and Fort Wayne played to a shootout, but it's the Komets who took charge by scoring four times in the extra frame to take the game 3-2 tonight at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Fort Wayne started the game off by scoring four minutes and 55 seconds in on a goal by Colin Chaulk, however, the Mechanics would answer with a goal three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Tom Kotsopoulos was the goal scorer while Greg Bullock tallied the lone assist.

Neither team would score again until mid way through the third period when the Komets Jonathan Goodwin gave his team the lead with just over 10 minutes remaining.

The Mechanics would take advantage of a Komets penalty when Brent Gretzky scored on the man advantage with helpers from Kevin Hansen and Kyle Kos to tie the game at 2-2.

The game would remain tied at 2-2 through the end of regulation, forcing the shootout, the fifth shootout for the Mechanics this year.

In the shootout, Adam Edinger started the scoring for the Mechanics while three Komets would follow with goals of their own. Rounds four and five saw the Mechanics tie the shootout 3-3 when Kris Vernarsky and Greg Bullock scored, but the Komets responded at the end of round seven with a game-winning goal by David Frawley.

Rod Branch made his 33rd start in net and made 30 saves in the loss.

The Mechanics remain on the road for the next three games in which they will face three divisional opponents. Wednesday the Mechanics are in Flint, Friday the Mechanics are in Muskegon, Saturday the Mechanics are in Port Huron and Sunday the Mechanics return home to face the Quad City Mallards.
