Rockford IceHogs News Release
Moline, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs club record 12-game unbeaten streak came to an end on Sunday, with the Hogs falling 3-2 to the Quad City Mallards at the MARK of the Quad Cities. The Mallards used a pair of second period goals to grab a lead that they would not relinquish.
Quad City scored first in the opening frame when defenseman Jami Yoder blasted home his first marker of the year through traffic at 10:32. Rockford responded at 15:56 when winger Jason Notermann was set up perfectly by Yannick Tifu to knot the score at 1-1. Hogs center Olivier Proulx later gave the IceHogs the 2-1 lead beating Mallards goalie Jason Tapp at 19:45.
Penalties would hinder Rockford in the second period. While on the 5-on-3 power play, Quad City's leading scorer Chad Woollard ripped in his 22nd marker of the season past Hogs goalie Ronnie Vogel to tie the score. After a Rockford power play expired, Mallards winger Glenn Detulleo picked off a Rockford pass and beat Vogel on a breakaway at 12:11 of the middle period, the eventual game-winning goal.
Both clubs peppered the net with 26 shots on goal with Vogel making 23 saves and getting handed his second loss of the season. Rockford held Quad City to 1-for-9 on the power play and the game marked the first time this season that Rockford didn't win after holding a lead after the first or second period.
Next Home Game: Wednesday, Jan. 18 vs. Fort Wayne Komets. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The Hogs and Komets meet for the second time at the MetroCentre. It's another FlyAway Wednesday with the Chicago-Rockford International Airport, Allegiant Air and WXRX-FM 104.9.
