Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (74-59) won their third-straight game over the Tennessee Smokies (64-67) on Sunday night at Riverwalk Stadium by a score of 3-1, and are now one win away from punching their ticket to the postseason for a team-record fourth-consecutive season.

Sam McWilliams (5-7) got the ball for the Butter and Blue and fired six innings of one-run ball en route to the victory. The right-hander got some help in the first inning from Nathan Lukes, whose sac fly put Montgomery up, 1-0.

In the fourth, Vimael Machin tied the game with an RBI-double, before Jesus Sanchez untied it with an RBI-double of his own off the top of the wall in right-center field. Lukes would add an RBI-double of his own in the fifth to stretch the lead to two. Jordan Harrison then tossed a scoreless seventh, and Curtis Taylor worked a two-inning save throwing a scoreless eighth and ninth to seal the win.

The Biscuits could have locked up a playoff berth with a win and a Birmingham loss on Sunday, but the Barons blanked the Jackson Generals at Regions Field earlier in the day to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Montgomery needs only one more victory in their final seven games to ensure that they will play postseason baseball for a fourth-straight season, and can lock up the Second Half North Division for the third time in four years with a win and a Jackson loss on Monday.

The Biscuits will try to make it four in a row on Monday night when Benton Moss (7-5) takes on Michael Rucker (9-6) at 6:35 PM. Fan Appreciation Day on Tuesday will be the final regular season game of the year at Riverwalk Stadium.
