McLouth Named E.L. Player of the Week

Altoona Curve OF Nate McLouth today was named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for last week. McLouth hit .433 (13-for-30) with three doubles, one home run, five RBI, 11 runs scored and four stolen bases during the week of Aug. 2-8. The 22-year old also broke his own franchise record by reaching base safely in his 31st consecutive game in Sunday's 6-5, 10-inning win over Harrisburg—Altoona's sixth consecutive victory.

For the season, McLouth is batting .324 with 7 HR, 61 RBI and 26 SB in 107 games in his first season at the Double-A level. The 5-foot-11, 170 pound outfielder ranks among the Eastern League's leaders in batting (.324/4th), runs scored (72/5th), stolen bases (26/5th) and doubles (28/6th).

Nate was the Pirates' 25th round selection in the 2000 June draft out of Whitehall (MI) H.S. and is currently in his fourth professional season.

The first-place Curve (69-44) will embark on a season-long nine-game road trip with the first of three games against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Tuesday night in Manchester, NH. Altoona will also visit Reading and Harrisburg for three-game series before returning to Blair County Ballpark on Thursday the 19th to open a four-game set against the Bowie Baysox.
