GREAT FALLS, MT - Six runs on ten hits helped the Missoula Osprey (18-16) top Great Falls (13-18) Sunday evening, claiming the series sweep with a 6-1 final at Centene Stadium. Missoula right-handed starter Patrick McGuff (W, 4-1) threw a solid five innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out eight in his fourth win of the season.
The Missoula win makes it their third-straight, keeping them a game behind Idaho Falls for the top spot in the North. The Osprey will welcome the Chukars to Ogren Park at Allegiance Field Monday night to start a three-game series, with the first-half of the season ending on Thursday.
Osprey CF Dominic Canzone led the way offensively, finishing 3-4 with an RBI. 2B Cam Coursey and RF Kevin Watson both finished 1-4, and both recording triples. All but two Osprey batters reached base safely.
Missoula catcher Axel Andueza ended the night 2-5, his second multi-hit night in his last three games.
Osprey pitching was strong again, striking out a combined twelve Voyagers batters on Sunday.
Determined to keep their momentum rolling into Sunday, Missoula quickly put three runs on the scoreboard in the first three innings, a run in each top frame.
Two more would score in the 5th , when 1B Spencer Brickhouse put a ball in play down the right-field line, scoring both Coursey and RF Tristen Carranza.
Great Falls answered with a solo shot in the home-half of the 5th , the only Voyagers' run of the night.
The Osprey tallied one more run in the 8th , thanks to an RBI-single from Canzone.
RHP Denson Hull relieved Osprey starter McGuff, moving the game through the 7th inning with no runs or hits, striking out three. Fellow-righty Nick Marchese finished the ball game, allowing no runs on two hits, walking and striking out one.
Missoula begins a seven-game home series Monday night, with the first three against first-place Idaho Falls.
