Missoula Scores Early, Completes Sweep of Voyagers

Great Falls, MT - For a second straight game, the Voyager offense stalled out in a 6-1 loss to the Missoula Osprey Sunday afternoon at Centene Stadium. Great Falls (13-19) has dropped five in a row, and is 2-7 against the Osprey. The Voyagers are 6-7 at home. After the three-game sweep, Missoula (18-16) is still a game back of first-place Idaho Falls in the Pioneer League North heading into the final week of first-half play. The Osprey improved to 10-7 on the road, and 5-1 in Great Falls.

Missoula scored first and put up a run in three consecutive innings to start the game. In the top of the first, Axel Andueza reached base with a single. Andueza went to second on a pitch in the dirt, and then scored as the catcher's throw went wildly into center field. Liover Peguero led off the second with a base hit to left. He later scored on an RBI triple to right by Kevin Watson. The Osprey made it 3-0 with a third inning tally. Cam Coursey led off the frame with a triple lined into the right field corner. Andueza brought Coursey in with an RBI single to right.

Both teams plated runs in the fifth. Missoula extended its lead to 5-0 with two unearned runs. The Voyagers only run of the game scored on a leadoff, solo home run plugged deep to right-center by Luis Mieses. It was the third homer of the season for Mieses. The Osprey scored the game's final run in the eighth.

Missoula outhit Great Falls 10-to-5. The Voyagers committed two errors. Dominic Canzone went 3-for-5 with an RBI to pace the Osprey. Axel Andueza collected two hits with an RBI. For the Voyagers, Tyrus Greene finished 2-for-3 with an infield single and a double. Great Falls went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, while Missoula was 4-for-10.

On the mound, Patrick McGuff picked up the win. McGuff (4-2) went five solid innings and gave up one earned run on three hits (HR) with eight strikeouts and one walk. Avery Weems took his first loss. Weems (1-1) worked four-and-a-third and surrendered five runs (two earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Great Falls opens a new three-game road series Monday night at Billings.
