McGough, Diggs and Perry Named OurSports Central USFL Players of the Week

Birmingham Stallions quarterback Alex McGough, New Orleans Breakers linebacker Vontae Diggs and Michigan Panthers quarterback E.J. Perry were named OurSports Central United States Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for week ten of the USFL season.

McGough completed 22 of 33 passes for 282 yards, two touchdowns and one interception and added 32 yards rushing in the Stallions 27-20 victory over the Memphis Showboats, earning him offensive honors for the fourth time this season. He connected with Davion Davis nine times for 114 yards. The victory improved the Stallions record to a USFL-best 8-2, topping the South Division for the second year in a row.

Honorable mention goes to New Orleans Breakers quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson who passed for 227 yards and two scores in the Breakers 17-10 win over the Houston Gamblers that sealed a playoff berth for New Orleans.

On defense, Diggs contributed nine tackles, one interception and one sack in the Breakers victory.

Diggs played for the Alliance of American Football's Atlanta Legends in 2019 and the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos in 2019 and 2020. He is in his second season with the Beakers.

Michigan Panthers linebacker Frank Ginda earned an honorable mention with 12 tackles and one pass deflected in the Panthers 23-20 defeat of the Philadelphia Stars.

In his first USFL start, E.J. Perry passed for 121 yards and added 48 rushing yards and one touchdown in the Panthers 23-20 win over the Stars that sent Michigan to the playoffs. Most importantly, he avoided any costly mistakes.

Perry played college football at Brown and signed with the Panthers on May 30th.

Perry's six-yard rushing touchdown after a fumbled snap proved to be the winning score.
