Love, Speaks and Jones Named OurSports Central USFL Players of the Week

Michigan Panthers quarterback Josh Love, Panthers defensive end Breeland Speaks, and New Orleans Breakers running back Anthony Jones were named the OurSports Central United States Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for week one of the USFL season.

Love completed 18 of 20 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers' 29-13 victory over the Houston Gamblers. By connecting on 19 of 21 throws, Love set a USFL record for the highest completion percentage (90.5 percent) in a single game.

Love played college football at San Jose State and was tabbed Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. Last year Love played three games with the Pittsburgh Maulers before joining the Michigan Panthers for four contests.

Love's third touchdown pass of the game in the fourth quarter went 34 yards to wide receiver Joe Walker.

Honorable mention goes the Philadelphia Stars quarterback Case Cookus who completed 20 of 29 passes for 212 yards with three touchdowns, and added 31 rushing yards in the Stars' 27-23 win over the Memphis Showboats.

Speaks finished with three sacks, seven total tackles, and one forced fumble for the Panthers.

He played in college at Ole Miss and was drafted by Kansas City Chiefs in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft and grabbed a Super Bowl LIV ring with the team. This is Speaks first season in the USFL.

Pittsburgh Maulers linebacker Reuben Foster earns an honorable mention by contributing 12 total tackles and one forced fumble in the Maulers' 22-15 loss to the New Orleans Breakers.

Anthony Jones caught the game-winning, two-yard touchdown reception from quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson with 1:08 left in the game to help the Breakers edge the Maulers.

Jones competed on the collegiate level at Miami-Florida and is playing his second season in the USFL with the New Orleans Breakers.
