Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Each offseason, MLB.com recaps and analyzes all 30 teams in Major League Baseball and their farm systems. This year, the official website of Major League Baseball listed Mike McCardell as Twins' Minor League Pitcher of the Year and Ben Revere as Twins' Minor League Hitter of the Year. Both players were members of the 2008 Snappers.

Last year, in his first full season, McCardell led all Twins' Minor League full-season pitchers with a 2.86 ERA. The right-hander went 9-4 with 139 strikeouts in 135.1 innings pitched, while surrendering just 25 walks. He was the ace of a pitching staff that finished second in the Midwest League with a combined 1,132 strikeouts.

Mike was drafted by the Twins in the sixth round of the 2007 First-Year Player draft out of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. During the 2007 season, McCardell went a combined 7-1 with a 2.14 ERA for the GCL Twins and the Elizabethton Twins. He also struck out 95 compared to just eight walks in 63 innings of work.

Ben Revere also had an outstanding year in his first full season of duty. Revere hit .375 (tops in Minor League Baseball) with 129 hits, 17 doubles, 10 triples and 44 stolen bases for the '08 Snappers. The speedy outfielder from Kentucky also sported a .433 on-base percentage to go along with his Minor League-best batting average.

Revere was taken by Minnesota in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 First-Year Player draft out of Lexington Catholic High School in Kentucky. In 2007, he hit .325 with 62 hits, 10 triples and 21 steals in 50 games. Ben will add the MLB.com award to his already impressive resume, which includes:
