Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

Donations to flood recovery efforts in Cedar Rapids continue to arrive from all over the United States. The Lake Elsinore Storm, the class A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, donated their share of California League fine money to the Kernels Foundation to assist in the foundation's 2008 Flood Relief efforts.

Chris Jones, Vice President and General Manager of the Storm made the donation, after hearing presentations from Kernels staff members John Rodgers and Jessica Fergesen at the MiLB Promotional Seminar in Austin TX this past October. Fine money in the California League is divided among the 10 teams and Lake Elsinore's share came to $853.86.

Donations to flood relief have come in the form of 15 computers to the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, $25,000 to the Kernels Foundation from Minor League Baseball and it's affiliated teams; $1,300 from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Booster Club and $1,000 from the Arkansas Travelers fine money to the American Red Cross.

The long-term vision and purpose of the Foundation is to ensure that all youth in eastern Iowa have the opportunity to experience the thrills and life-enhancing lessons that come from engaging in athletics and recreational activities. Our goal is to build the Kernels Foundation into the quintessential source for raising funds for athletic programs or facilities in need in eastern Iowa.
