Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Keith McCambridge has stepped down as head coach of the Alaska Aces to accept a position as an assistant coach in the American Hockey League. The search for a replacement already has begun.

Last season, McCambridge led the Aces to within a game of their second ECHL championship in four years, losing Game 7 of the Kelly Cup Finals at home to South Carolina. His two-year record as head coach during the regular season was 86-50-8 (.625), including the club's fourth West Division and third National Conference title in five years this past season.

McCambridge's teams went 20-10 (.667) in the playoffs, sweeping defending ECHL champion Idaho in a first-round series back in 2008 and winning 12 of 14 games on its way to the Kelly Cup Finals this season. His departure ends a seven-year tenure with the Aces, including three years as a playing captain and one as an assistant coach under current Peoria Rivermen head coach Davis Payne. McCambridge closed out his playing career in 2006, when Alaska defeated Gwinnett in five games to capture the ECHL championship.

"We're pleased and proud that another of our head coaches has been promoted to the next level," said Aces managing member Terry Parks. "Because we've been through this process before, our organization feels confident that our next coach will continue to build on the successful foundation that has been established here over the last six seasons."

The Aces open the 2009-10 regular season at home against Victoria October 16, 17 and 19, with all three games scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start. For those interested in season ticket or corporate sponsorship information, regular office hours at the corner of 15th and Gambell are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
