Capraro Agress to Terms With Checkers

CHARLOTTE, NC-General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson announced today that forward, Chris Capraro has agreed to terms and will return for his third season with the team.

Capraro, 5-foot-7, 186 pounds, is a Medford, Massachusetts native. He played four seasons at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst scoring 28 goals and 67 assists totaling 95 points in 127 games. At the end of the 2006-07 season, Capraro began his professional career playing in 2 games with the Trenton Titans (now known as the Trenton Devils) of the ECHL scoring 1 goal and 1 assist.

Capraro began his career with the Checkers in 2007-08. He appeared in 69 games scoring 24 goals and 27 assists for a total of 51 points for the 07-08 campaign. Capraro began the 2008-09 season in Germany with Freiburg EHC. In 30 games overseas, he amassed 12 goals and 31 assists for 43 points. Capraro returned to Charlotte in January 2009 for the remainder of the 2008-09 season, and scored 9 goals and 20 assists for 29 points in 33 games with the team.

Wilkinson adds, "We are very excited to have Chris back for his third season. He continues to grow as a player, and he is a huge asset for the team both on and off the ice."

The Checkers are getting ready for their 17th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 16-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 12 times including five consecutive playoff appearances to date.
