Mayor Sarno, Armor to Recognize Students Tomorrow

SPRINGFIELD, MA JAN. 20, 2011 - The Springfield Armor have launched the 1st year of the organization's ‚¬ËœRead to Achieve' Program, sponsored by Gary Rome Hyundai and Comcast.

Tomorrow, Fri. Jan. 21st, members of the Armor staff, including General Manager Alex Schwerin and the Armor mascot, Steal, will meet with Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno at the Talmadge School in Springfield to recognize the school's students for being the first reading program participants to complete their requirements.

The Armor are proud to announce that the team has enrolled nearly 6,000 Springfield-area children from 15 elementary schools in the four-week program.

The program is an incentive based program in which schools set reading goals for their students and the Armor reward the students who meet or exceed their goals with various prizes. The culmination of the four-week program will be when the students who have reached all their reading goals are invited to attend a Springfield Armor game at the MassMutual Center and will be recognized on the court prior to the game.
