Charlotte Sting News Release

As part of the WNBA's ongoing efforts to encourage fitness and well-being in today's youth, Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory will proclaim Thursday, May 19, 2005, as "WNBA Kids Health and Fitness Day" in Charlotte.

To celebrate the day, Mayor McCrory will join the entire Charlotte Sting team and coaching staff for a "Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself" event at Sterling Paideia Academy (9601 China Grove Church Road, Pineville, North Carolina) on Thursday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m.

Sting players and coaches will conduct a fitness forum and join more than 250 third, fourth and fifth grade students in obstacle courses, games, arts and crafts designed to educate children about proper health and nutrition. Charlotte joins WNBA teams from around the country in celebrating "WNBA Kids Health and Fitness Day."

"Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself" is the WNBA's newest community initiative, designed to educate individuals about the risks and dangers of obesity and inactivity while answering questions about healthy nutritional and lifestyle choices. It also seeks to promote increased self-esteem among children and young adults.

The Sting will open their ninth season on Saturday, May 21, at the Charlotte Coliseum as they host Washington at 6 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the Charlotte Coliseum Box Office, all TicketMaster locations, by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX or by logging onto www.charlottesting.com. Fans can also download a schedule and obtain further ticket information at www.charlottesting.com.

The Charlotte Bobcats Organization includes the Charlotte Bobcats (NBA), the Charlotte Sting (WNBA), C-SET (Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television), a 24-hour regional sports network covering North and South Carolina, and the New Charlotte Arena, opening in the fall of 2005.
