John Gustafsson scores fourth goal in last three games in loss to Thunderbolts
MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem remain winless at home on this young season, as they fell to the Evansville Thunderbolts 4-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Evansville got out to a very early lead in the game, as Dave Williams scored on the power play to put the Thunderbolts up 1-0. John Gustafsson answered, however, for the Mayhem, scoring his fourth goal in the last three games to make it 1-1. John Siemer and Dennis Sicard tallied the assists on the goal. Don Olivieri put Evansville back up one goal heading into the second period.
SPHL goal-leader Justin MacDonald scored his sixth of the season to stretch the Evansville lead to two early in the second period. Mayhem forward Stathis Soumelidis scored his first goal of the season to cut the lead in half, assisted by Ryan Salkeld and Darren McCormick.
MacDonald scored his second of the game and seventh of the season to give the Thunderbolts an insurance goal. Despite constant pressure from the Mayhem, they were unable to score, and the game ended with a 4-2 score.
NOTABLE STATS
Charlie Finn earned his third consecutive start tonight, but he was pulled early in the second period after allowing three goals on 15 shots. Troy Passingham came into the game in relief for his first appearance of the season, and he allowed just one goal on 11 shots.
Former Mayhem goaltender Tomas Sholl started in net for Evansville, as he allowed just two goals on 37 shots from Macon.
The Mayhem allowed one goal on four power play opportunities from Evansville. They have now allowed power play goals in five consecutive games.

The Mayhem have two more games this weekend, as the Evansville Thunderbolts stay in town for game two of the series tomorrow night, and the Birmingham Bulls come to town on Saturday night.
