Shawn Skelly extended his lead in the Southern Professional Hockey League's scoring race, and Michael Wills scored a clutch shootout goal leading the Macon Mayhem to a 3-2, eight-round shootout, win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers Sunday in Pensacola.

It completed a weekend sweep for the Mayhem, which had defeated Pensacola Saturday, 5-1. The victory is the eighth road win of the season for the Mayhem. That ties them with three other teams for the second most road wins in the league. Only Peoria has more road wins than the Mayhem.

It was a dramatic comeback for the mayhem, which trailed 2-0 heading into the third period. Cody Dion and Corey Banfield scored first period goals for Pensacola. Banfield's goal temporarily moved him into a tie with Skelly for the league scoring lead.

But Skelly regained the top spot on the scoring chart with a goal midway through the third period, that cut the Pensacola lead to 2-1. Stephen Pierog scored his second goal in as many nights with just under four minutes left in regulation time to force overtime.

Pensacola outshot the Mayhem 5-0 in the five minute three on three overtime. Goaltender Garrett Bartus turned them all aside forcing the shootout

In the first round Joe Caveney beat Bartus, and that was the only goal until Wills scored in the final round, tying the shootout at a goal a piece through five rounds. Both teams took advanatage of a recent revison in shootout procedures whcih allows teams to have the same shooter attempt a shootout, after the initial round of five shooters is complete.

Caveney took all three shots for Pensacola, scoring on two of them. But the Mayhem wound up scoring on all three extra shootout attempts, one by Nick Grasso and the final two by Skelly to win the game. Combined with Wills' shootout goal, the Mayhem converted on its final four shootout attempts.

The Mayhem continues a four game road trip Friday, visiting the Mississippi RiverKings.
