Macon Mayhem News Release

MACON, Ga. - The Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced their promotional schedule for the upcoming 2020-21 season. The slate of 21 games inside the Macon Centreplex begins in less than a month, with a back-to-back weekend of games scheduled for Saturday, January 2, and Sunday, January 3.

The opening weekend will welcome fans back to the Centreplex with plenty of surprises as the Mayhem kicks off their sixth season in Middle Georgia with new local ownership. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the SPHL will play an abbreviated 42-game schedule with five teams in cities that have allowed for reduced spectator seating for games. Along with Macon, the Birmingham (Ala.) Bulls, Huntsville (Ala.) Havoc, Knoxville (Tenn.) Ice Bears, and Pensacola (Fla.) Ice Flyers will compete in the SPHL this season.

The first jersey auction of the season will take place on Saturday, January 9, with Margaritaville Night and Jimmy Buffet-themed events throughout the arena. The following Saturday, January 16, the focus shifts to the '90s with Nineties Night and a special '90s themed birthday party for team mascot Mac. Plenty of his mascot friends have been invited to join in the fun. Sunday, January 17 marks the first of three Family Fun Days with the Mayhem, featuring a post-game skate and other fun events throughout the game. The other Family Fun Days are also on Sundays, coming up February 21 and March 21.

The fun promotions continue into the month of February. On February 5 and 6, the team takes on a new identity and pays homage to the Macon Bacon baseball team as the Macon MayHAMS will take to the ice. A postgame jersey auction on Saturday, February 6 will give fans a chance to take a piece of the new team home with them. The Mayhem will "laissez les bons temps rouler" on Saturday, February 20 with Mardi Gras night and plenty of themed goodies throughout the game. February 25 marks the first of two College Nights with "Thirsty Thursday" drink specials as well. The other Thursday home game is slated for April 8.

March kicks off with the lone Tuesday home game of the season on March 2. It will be "Taco Tuesday" with plenty of Mexican-themed food specials at the concession stands. The schedule races on to Friday, March 5 with NASCAR Night and plenty of high-speed fun, with the following night on Saturday, March 6 featuring the "Whitey Tighty Toss" after Macon's first goal. The highly successful event from last season returns where fans will be able to throw new socks and underwear on the ice to benefit those in local homeless shelters. The Mayhem will help the city of Macon ring in the annual Cherry Blossom Festival with a kickoff night and special jersey auction on Friday, March 19.

An action-packed April home slate starts with Pucks and Paws Night on Saturday, April 3, where your favorite furry friend can accompany you to the game and the wiener dogs will be able to race on the ice during intermissions. The Mayhem will pay homage to the franchise's Augusta roots on Friday, April 9 with a Masters-themed "Green Jacket Night". The team will honor those who defend our country on April 16 and 17 with Military Weekend, complete with a military-themed jersey to be auctioned off after the game on the 17th. The final regular season home game is Friday, April 30, with plenty of specials for Fan Appreciation Night and a postgame jersey auction featuring one set of the Mayhem's player jerseys from the season.

Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are still available for the upcoming season, which promises to bring some of the best hockey the city of Macon has ever seen on the Centreplex ice. To become a part of all the excitement, contact the Mayhem at 478.803.1592.
