Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Continued trends were the story as the Lakewood BlueClaws won game one of a four- game series against the Greenville Drive 5-2 on Sunday night. The BlueClaws continued to get strong outings from Trevor May, BJ Rosenberg continues his scoreless innings streak and the BlueClaws continue to excel on the road.

After a scoreless first three innings, the BlueClaws (17-13) got on the board first in a big way in the fourth inning. Against Fabian Willaimson (6-3), who has been mowing down hitters at an impressive rate all season long, the BlueClaws put together a four-run inning. Travis d'Arnaud led the inning off with a fly out, but then Jim Murphy singled and TJ Warren reached on an error. Travis Mattair was then struck out before the wheels fell off for Williamson. Vladimir De Los Santos hit an RBI-single, scoring Murphy, followed by a single by Troy Hanzawa. Hanzawa plated Warren and both Hanzawa and De Los Santos advanced on a throwing error. A wild pitch scored De Los Santos before a walk to Korby Mintken sent Williamson packing.

The Drive's (13-16) starter lasted just 3.2 innings allowing four runs, however none of them were earned. Against Jeremy Kehrt, Anthony Gose walked as did D'Arby Myers, walking in a run, before the inning ended.

BlueClaws starter Trevor May (2-1) pitched exceptionally well again and has put together a string of six very good outings. May only lasted five, but allowed just one hit and no runs. He struck out nine and walked three. May lasted long enough to pick up his second win of the season.

In relief of May was Ryan Bergh who struggled in the sixth inning. Bergh allowed a single and a walk before the bases became loaded with no one out on an error by Hanzawa. All told, Bergh allowed two runs and the BlueClaws kept a 4-2 lead.

In the seventh, the BlueClaws got a run back as Jim Murphy got himself back into a two-way tie as the BlueClaws leading home run hitter. His solo blast went over the replica "Green Monster" at Fluor Field, home of the Boston Red Sox affiliate. The home run made it 5-2.

Jacob Diekman worked out of trouble to pitch a clean seventh before the BlueClaws called on their closer BJ Rosenberg in the eighth. Rosenberg worked another two scoreless and for the eighth time, recorded a two-inning save. The save is his 17th of the season and he continues his scoreless innings streak which now stands at 23.1 innings.

The win places the BlueClaws back at four games above the .500 mark in the second half and 20 games above .500 overall. Both numbers are season highs.

This series is a battle between the two first-half champions in the South Atlantic League. Both teams have secured playoff spots in mid-September.

The BlueClaws and Drive will continue their four- game series and the eight-game road trip on Monday at 7:05 pm. The BlueClaws, who hold the league's best road record, will send Justin De Fratus to the mound in the game. De Fratus (4-3) had his first truly strong start in his transition back to the rotation and he looks for continued similar results. He will be opposed by Stolmy Pimentel (9-4), formerly a top three pitcher in the league in ERA.
