ICYMI: Trey Supak allowed just one run over seven quality innings pitched, Tucker Neuhaus scored three runs and Weston Wilson drove in two runs as the Mudcats earned a series opening 5-3 victory versus the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Thursday night at Five County Stadium.

ABOUT THE LAST ONE: Last night's series opening featured a one hour and 18 minute rain delay that occurred in the top of the eighth inning. The longest rain delay experienced by the Mudcats last season was two hours and six minutes and came in mid-June against the Potomac Nationals at Five County Stadium. That game originally began on Friday, June 16, 2017, but was suspended after just four minutes of play due to heavy rain. It was then scheduled to resume at 4:00 p.m. the following day, but was eventually pushed back an hour later because of a rain delay. The game eventually did resume and finished at just two hours and 31 minutes in official length, but featured a two hour and six minute delay.

VS. ROCKS: The Mudcats continue a four game home stand tonight with game two of a four game series versus the Wilmington Blue Rocks at Five County Stadium. Carolina won last night's game 5-3 and lead the overall season series 3-1. Tonight's game is the fifth of seven total games between the Mudcats and Blue Rocks this season.

MUDCATS STARTER: LHP Nathan Kirby has tonight's game two of four start versus the visiting Blue Rocks. Kirby is 0-2 and has pitched to a 7.11 ERA with 12 strikeouts, 10 walks an a .191 average against over 12.2 innings and six starts this season. He last pitched on May 6 against the Wood Ducks and ended up pitching through just one inning while allowing four runs on three hits. He also walked one and struck out one his last time out. Kirby has faced Wilmington once already this season. His last start against them came on April 18 in Wilmington where he worked through 3.0 scoreless frames with two hits, two walks and two strikeouts... The Brewers selected Kirby with the 40th overall pick of the 2015 draft out of the University of Virginia. He began his first full season with Low-A Wisconsin, but landed on the DL in August, before undergoing Tommy John surgery in September of 2015. Kirby then missed both the 2016 and 2017 seasons following surgical procedures underwent in September 2015 and again in 2016.

OPP STARTER: RHP Gerson Garabito starts for the Blue Rocks tonight and enters at 1-2 with a 2.12 ERA over six starts this season. Garabito has also totaled 23 strikeouts, 19 walks and a .154 average against over 29.2 innings pitched this season. He last pitched on May 6 against the Frederick Keys and ended up with a no-decision despite pitching through 7.0 scoreless innings. Garabito also allowed just two, walked three and struck out five in his last outing... Garabito is currently rated as the No. 27 prospect in the Kansas City farm system by MLBpipeline.com. He signed with the Royals in 2012 and pitched for Low-A Lexington in 2016 (2-11, 4.80 ERA, 80.2 IP, 35 BB, 61 SO) and in 2017 (4-5, 2.81 ERA, 77 IP, 19 BB, 72 SO) after pitching in the Dominican Summer League (2013-2014) and Arizona Rookie League (2015) the previous three seasons.

STRUGGLING LATE: Mudcats pitchers have combined to pitch to a 6.75 ERA (20 R, 16 ER, 20 BB, 22 SO) in the ninth inning so far this season. They have also pitched to a 5.33 ERA (18 R, 15 ER, 13 BB, 27 SO) in the eighth and a 4.13 ERA in the seventh... Conversely, the Carolina pitching staff owns a 3.38 ERA from the 1st through 5th innings this season.

STREAKING: Dallas Carroll is currently in a season high eight game hitting streak (.379/.417/.414, 11 H, 2 R, 9 RBI). His eight game streak is the longest for a Mudcats player this season.

WALK THIS WAY: The Mudcats pitching staff has combined to walk a Carolina League high 159 batters this season. Those 159 BB are also the 2nd most in all of MiLB.

HITS AND Ks: The Carolina offense has totaled 75 more strikeouts than hits (340 SO, 265 H) so far this season. Carolina's difference in strikeouts over hits is tied for the 3rd largest in MiLB. Since 1991, only the 2017 Mudcats and 2007 Mudcats finished a season with more strikeouts than hits. Carolina totaled 164 more strikeouts than hits last season (1,245 SO [franchise record], 1,081 H) and 70 more strikeouts than hits in 2007 (1,219 SO, 1,149 H).

WHERE THEY RANK: Cam Roegner is 2nd in the Carolina League in lowest earned run average (1.08). Roegner also leads the CL in LOB% (93.6%) and GB% (59.6%)... Trey Supak (1.85) is 4th in the CL in lowest earned run average. Supak is also 1st in the CL innings (39.0), 4th in WHIP (1.03) and 4th fewest baserunners/9ip ratio (9.92)... Luis Aviles Jr. is tied for 2nd in the CL in stolen bases (12)... Marcos Diplan leads the CL in most walks issued (22)... Max McDowell leads CL catchers in most caught steals (21) and caught stealing efficiency (.553).

GOT HEEEM: Max McDowell leads MiLB catchers in most caught steals (21) and caught stealing/stolen base efficiency (.553) for catchers with at least 20 attempts against... McDowell caught four base runners attempting to steal and picked off another at first on Opening Night, 4/5 vs. Winston-Salem. He and the Mudcats also allowed six stolen bases on 4/19 vs. BC.

Griep has pitched to a 2.08 ERA over 17.1 innings and has converted 13 of 14 save chances this season. He has also totaled 16 strikeouts, 13 walks and a .219 average against this season.
