Nationals Score Late to Defeat Keys

FREDERICK, MD- The Potomac Nationals (21-14) used a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to defeat the Frederick Keys (14-21) 4-3 on Friday night at Nymeo Field. The two teams combined to go 3-for-24 with runners in scoring position and left a combined 25 men on base.
The Keys struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Randolph Gassaway drew a two-out walk, and Wilson Garcia drove him in with his first of two doubles.
Potomac answered in the top half of the second. Alec Keller and Tres Barrera singled to start the frame. After Keys starter Alex Wells retired the next two men, Bryan Mejia hit an RBI double to tie the game at one.
The visitors would take a lead in the fourth on a David Masters home run, and added another run in the fifth on a Keller sacrifice fly. Frederick answered in the bottom of the frame. Collin Woody walked, and scored two batters later on a Ryan McKenna double making the score 3-2 Nationals.
In the sixth, the Keys took advantage of a Kieboom error to tie up the game. With two outs, Yojhan Quevedo doubled. Woody then came up and hit a bouncer to short, but Kieboom's throw went over the head of Jake Noll and Quevedo scored from second.
The Nationals retook the lead in the top of the eighth. Blake Perkins singled and advanced to second on a Kieboom single. Ian Sagdal then hit a sacrifice fly that scored Perkins and pushed the score to 4-3.
James Teague (1-2) took the loss for the Keys. In an inning of work, Teague allowed a run on two hits while walking one. Ronald Pena (1-1) earned the win for the Nationals, firing a scoreless seventh inning. James Borque earned his second save by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Frederick and Potomac play game three of four on Saturday night. Right-hander Cristian Alvarado (4-2, 3.71) is slated to start for the Keys while the Nationals have not announced their starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio App.
