Maxey-Penton IFL Defensive Player of the Week

WORCESTER, MA - The Indoor Football League has named Massachusetts Pirates defensive back Aarion Maxey-Penton the Defensive Player of the Week. In Week 19, Maxey-Penton helped the reigning IFL champions to a 60-17 win over the San Diego Strike Force at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center.
Maxey-Penton intercepted San Diego quarterback Jorge Reyna in the fourth quarter and returned the pick 52 yards for a touchdown. The interception was his IFL leading seventh of the season. It was also his second "pick-six" this year. He also made four tackles and broke up two passes in the victory.
For the 5'10", 190 lb. defensive back, it was his 12th interception in regular season action with Massachusetts which ties the team all-time record. The former First-Team All-SEC performer at the University of Missouri is also second in the IFL with 24 passes defended and 17 passes broken up.
Last season Maxey-Penton, who hails from St. Louis, MO, had five interceptions and added two more in the Pirates postseason run to their first IFL championship. In the 37-34 overtime victory over Arizona in the United Bowl, Maxey-Penton deflected a pass that was intercepted, secured an interception of his own and recovered a fumble by Rattlers quarterback Drew Powell in overtime to set up the Pirates game winning field goal.
Prior to playing for Massachusetts, Maxey-Penton signed as an undrafted free agent and went to camp with the Los Angeles Rams in 2017. The following season he joined the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League and saw action with the Montreal Alouettes in 2019.
