Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Defensemen Nate Widman and Neal Goff have signed with the Kansas City Mavericks for the 2018-19 season, announced Tuesday by head coach John-Scott Dickson.

The pair of blue liners represent the first defensive signings by the Mavericks this season.

Widman, 25, showcased a steady defensive game during his rookie campaign last season with the Mavericks. In 70 games played, the Naperville, Illinois native contributed 16 points (4g, 12a) on the offensive end and was tagged with only 25 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot, 205-pound defenseman laced up for St. Cloud State for his final three collegiate seasons, wearing the 'A' as an alternate captain during his final two seasons of college hockey. The left-hand shot helped guide the Huskies to a NCHC conference title in the 2015-16 season.

Widman also played three seasons in the USHL, closing out his career in the league as captain of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, posting 11 points (4g, 7a) in 53 games with the club.

"I've had the privilege of making Kansas City my home over the last year," said Widman. "I am thrilled to continue my career playing for a premier organization within the ECHL and playing at home in front of the best fans in the league."

Goff, 24, is the first newcomer to the Mavericks' roster this season, joining the club out of Western Michigan. He made his ECHL debut last year on a tryout with the Kelly Cup champion Colorado Eagles, posting one assist in four games, and also skated in three games with the AHL San Antonio Rampage.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive-minded defenseman posted highs of three goals and six assists for nine points as a senior with the Broncos while serving as an alternate captain. Goff was coached at WMU by former NHL bench boss Andy Murray.

Prior to his collegiate career, the left-handed blue liner skated with the Fargo Force of the USHL, totaling 28 points in 166 career games in the league. He captained the team during his final season in Fargo, 2013-14.

"I'm thrilled to join the Mavericks," said Goff. "Everything about the organization looked appealing to me. This will be my first full year of professional hockey and I can't think of a better place to play."

Season tickets for the 2018-19 season remain on sale.
