Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks fell in a shootout to the Rapid City Rush, 4-3 Tuesday night at Independence Events Center. Goals from Ed McGrane, Kris Hogg and Tristin Llewellyn, two assists from Dale Mahovsky and 36 saves by Charlie Effinger weren't enough as the Mavs gave up ground in the Turner Conference playoff race. The Mavs third place lead is now down to two points over the Rush with 16 games to play.

The Mavericks white hot power play struck four minutes into regulation, as Tristin Llewellyn blasted home a slap shot from the point, giving Missouri an early 1-0 lead. Dale Mahovsky and John-Scott Dickson added assists on the goal. The lead was short-lived as the Thunder got two quick goals from Kelly Czuy and Collin Circelli at the 11:40 and 12:56 marks of the opening period.

Missouri tied the game three minutes into the second period on a goal from Kris Hogg. Mahovsky picked up his second assist of the game on the goal. The Rush were quick to respond, regaining the lead four minutes later on a goal from Konrad Reeder. Ed McGrane tied the game late in the period on a centering feed from Sebastien Thinel with 2:30 left in the middle frame. Thinel and Andrew Courtney were credited with the assists on the goal.

No goals were scored in the third period between the two teams. Overtime went scoreless as well and the two sides headed to a shootout. Tim Boron stopped all five Mavericks shooters and Circelli netted the game winner in the third round, giving Rapid City the 4-3 win.

The Mavericks' third place lead over the Rush now stands at just two points with 16 regular season games remaining.

The Mavericks are back in action this weekend with three games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Mavs hit the road to Dayton to face the Gems in Ohio on Friday before returning home on Saturday night to square off against the Wichita Thunder. Sunday afternoon, the team will head back to Wichita for the back-end of the home-and-home set.
