Americans Earn Point Against Texas

The Allen Americans get a point on Tuesday night falling to the Texas Brahmas in a shootout 2-1 at the Allen Event Center.

The Americans answered first in the opening period as Joshua Hepditch on a wrap-around from behind the net put one past Mark Guggenburger to give the Americans a 1-0 lead. Jim McKenzie back in the lineup after missing four games, and Jarret Lukin drew the assists. The Americans outshot Texas 12 to 3 after one period.

The Americans had several chances to add to their lead in the second however CHL Goalie of the week Mark Guggenburger stood strong, stopping shot after shot. The Brahmas would cash in at 9:25 of the second, when Phil Fox caused a turnover behind the Allen net, and found Brendon Hodge on the doorstep to tie the game at 1-1. Hodge slid one inside the post for his 11th of the year The Brahmas outshoot the Americans 8-6 in the second.

No scoring in the third or overtime as both teams had chances. For the third game in a row the Americans would try to earn an extra point in a shootout. Colton Yellow Horn beat Mark Guggenburger with the first Allen attempt; however that would be the last goal for Allen on the evening. Phil Fox tied things up in the shootout. Ross Rouleau, the fifth Texas shooter ended the game giving the Brahmas two points as they inch to within five of Allen in the Berry.

The next game for the Americans is Friday night at home against the Laredo Bucks at 7:05 PM.
