Kansas City Mavericks News Release
INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks capture their third game over the Tulsa Oilers with a 3-2 regulation victory on Saturday night on the road in Tulsa. The Mavericks seized their previous two games against the Oilers with similar 4-3 triumphs.
The night began a bit sluggish through a scoreless first period, but the Mavericks took control of the scoreboard in the first half of the second period, despite taking significantly fewer shots on goal than the Oilers overall. Andrew Courtney was the first to light the lamp for the Mavericks, putting up his eleventh goal of the season and fourth power-play goal. Second to boost the Mavs' reign on the ice was Mike Ramsay, who fired in a well-timed shot to increase the Missouri lead to 2-0 with just under five minutes left in the second period. Sebastien Thinel and Eric Castonguay worked in tandem to tally two assists apiece on Courtney and Ramsay's goals.
The Oilers' Ryan Cramer cut the Mavs' lead with a quick goal to put his team on the board, assisted by Todd Robinson and Drew Fisher.
Holding a 2-1 lead at the start of the third period, the Mavericks were not ready to let the game get away from them, resulting in fast-paced and physical play from both teams. Determined to stay in it, the Oilers' Kyle Bochek sped across the ice, fresh from the penalty box, and tied the game 2-2 with a well-placed shot just above Shane Owen's glove.
In an almost identical attack, Dave Pszenyczny came tearing from the penalty box in the final three minutes of regulation to accept a perfectly timed, perfectly placed pass from John-Scott Dickson to break away and go one-on-one with Tulsa net-minder Shane Madolora to fire the game-winning goal for the Mavericks.
The Mavs will continue on the road with a three back-to-back-to-back games against the league-leading Rapid City Rush. Missouri plays their next game on Thursday, December 26th at 8:05pm in Rapid City. Fans are invited to attend all Official Mavericks Away Game Watch Parties at Strikerz Entertainment Center all season long!
The Missouri Mavericks invite their fans to spend New Year's Eve with the Mavs on Tuesday, December 31st when they host the Tulsa Oilers at the Independence Events Center.
